Nine days in the North East: elephant and jeep safaris in Kaziranga, Umiam Lake and Laitlum Canyons around Shillong, a boat ride on the crystal-clear Umngot River at Dawki, the very clean village of Mawlynnong, the waterfalls of Cherrapunji and Kamakhya Temple in Guwahati.

Day 1: Guwahati to Kaziranga
Meet on arrival and drive to Kaziranga (230 km, 4.5 hours). Evening visit to the Orchid Park and nearby tea plantations.

Day 2: Kaziranga safaris
Early morning elephant safari among one-horned rhinos, wild buffalo and birds. Afternoon jeep safari. Evening cultural show at the Orchid Park.

Day 3: Kaziranga to Shillong
Drive to Shillong (280 km, 6 hours), stopping at Umiam Lake. Evening at Police Bazaar.

Day 4: Laitlum Canyons and Krang Suri Falls
See the views at Laitlum Canyons and swim at Krang Suri Falls, one of Meghalaya's finest waterfalls.

Visit Mawsynram and its caves, then the Mawphlang Sacred Grove, a forest protected by the local community.

Visit Mawlynnong village with its Living Root Bridge and balancing rock, take a boat ride on the Umngot River at Dawki, then continue to Cherrapunji.

Important information
Cherrapunji and Dawki have limited facilities. Even the best hotels are like a basic 3-star, sometimes without AC or a lift. Rates apply to Indian travellers only. Children under 5 are free; over 12 are charged as adults. Elephant and jeep safaris are subject to availability. Carry a valid photo ID, basic medicines and rain cover. The group runs with a minimum of 10 to 12 passengers on that date. R K Vacations is not responsible for delayed or cancelled flights. Hotels are subject to availability at peak season.
